Coralville Lake, U.S. Army Corp of EngineersThe Devonian Fossil Gorge is back and it's bigger and better than ever! You will need to enter from the spillway apron, but what an awesome site it is.
This time the waters exposed several cephalapods, nature's original submarines. Crinoid stems and calyxes abound, along with some astonishing brachiopods.
To see the new movie about the gorge, and the floods of 1993 and 2008, come to the Visitor Center at the east end of the dam. It is open M-F, 8am to 4pm. During the recreation season the Visitor Center is also open on Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 5pm.
